Instructions for Presenters and Chairs

Guidelines for oral presentation

Kindly be at the session room at least 10 minutes before the session starts to meet the chair, upload your presentation, and familiarize yourself with the technical equipment.

Please, be prepared to speak for:

  • Session with 4 presentations: each presenter has 15 minutes to present and 5 minutes for discussion
  • Session with 5 presentations: each presenter has 12 minutes to present and 5 minutes for discussion
  • Flash session with 8 presentations: each presenter has 5 minutes to present and 5 minutes for discussion

Each session room is equipped with a computer with the Windows operating system. Please use Microsoft PowerPoint (*.ppt/*pptx) or PDF format to guarantee your presentation will open successfully on the on-site PC. The conference will be held in English.

Guidelines for poster session

Posters must be in English and measure 70 cm wide by 100 cm high. Creating posters as a mosaic of A4 or letter-sized papers is not allowed.

Posters must be delivered to the registration desk before 4:30 PM. The session will take place in the Botanical Garden. Presenters should arrive at the session 20 minutes before the start of the session and follow the instructions provided by the staff.

Guidelines for session chairs

The session chair is in charge of the good conduct of the session during the conference. The following rules of play are meant to help the chair in carrying out this responsibility, and to ensure that all sessions are run in a comparable manner.

1. Please, arrive to the room 10 minutes before the start of the session for last-minute exchanges of information, and to get acquainted with the specific conference facilities in the room. Each session room is equipped with a projector and a computer with Windows operating system.

2. Sessions must start and finish at the time indicated in the program. Sessions which run late create problems elsewhere in the program (also for the technical support staff).

3. Chairs may briefly introduce the topic of the session, keeping the introduction concise to ensure adequate time for paper presentations and discussion. The chair should provide practical information regarding:

  • the time available for the presentations
  • the procedure for discussion.

4. Each session lasts 90 minutes. The times allowed for each presentation are reported above in the section “Guidelines for oral presentation”. Chairs should make sure that presenters keep to their allotted times. If the number of papers does not match the predefined categories, the chairs may decide to allocate more time for discussion, staying within the 90-minute session.

5. Discussion is key in any session, so the chair should allow sufficient time for discussion. The chair may organize the discussion as seems fit. However, discussion immediately following a presentation works best and gives a level playing field to all presenters.

Saline Conti Vecchi

Museums Worth Visiting: From Ancient Giants to Anatomical Art

National Archaeological Museum of Cagliari

Located in the heart of the Cittadella dei Musei, the Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Cagliari is the most important archaeological museum in Sardinia. Clemente Susini’s Anatomical Wax Collection

Call for papers

The Italian Association for Population Studies (SIS-AISP) invites submissions to the next Giornate di Studio sulla Popolazione – Popdays 2025.

We are pleased to announce that the conference will see the participation of the Australian Population Association (APA).

Submissions should be made to one of the conference themes (conveners in parenthesis), through the submission system:

  • Ageing and intergenerational relations (Cecilia Tomassini)

  • a short abstract (max 200 words);
  • three to five keywords
  • an extended abstract (2-4 pages) OR the full paper;
  • full names, affiliations and e-mail addresses of all co-authors

The conference will be held in English. At most 1 submission as presenting author is allowed.

Contribution must be submitted in PDF format through the submission system.

  • 15 November 2024: Submission deadline
  • 20 January 2025: Authors will be notified about the acceptance of their submission
  • 20 February 2025: Deadline to be included in the program. All presenters must register by this date, otherwise the paper will be removed from the program, and the corresponding session rearranged
  • 20 February 2025: Deadline for the early bird registration
  • 30 April 2025: Deadline for the regular registration

Please check that your name and affiliation, as well as those of your co-author(s) are correctly recorded.

The first author in the list of the online system will be assumed to be the presenter: please check and, if needed, change the order of the authors accordingly. We warmly recommend that no one appears more than once as a presenter of papers accepted as oral or poster presentations.

Please note that your registration is not confirmed until payment has been received. Upon payment, a receipt will be sent to the email address provided in the submission system.

Early registration will save you money and it is strongly encouraged. We strongly recommend organizing your trip to Cagliari in advance. Due to the geographical peculiarities of Sardinia and the approaching summer period, it may be more difficult and more expensive to book the trip and stay closer to the conference venue.

How to reach Cagliari

Airport: Cagliari is connected to the main European cities through the Elmas International Airport. Information about national and international direct connections to and from Cagliari can be found here: https://www.sogaer.it/en/destinations. It is possible to reach the city centre in about 7 minutes from the airport through a metropolitan train, at 1.30 euros.  Taxi services are also available. Port: The port of Cagliari is an important landing point for liner ships (Rome-Civitavecchia, Naples, and Palermo) and cruise ships sailing in the Mediterranean. The ports of Olbia, Golfo Aranci, and Porto Torres, about two and a half hours drive from Cagliari, are connected with the ports of Genoa, Livorno, Piombino, Civitavecchia, Barcelona, Toulon, and Nice.

Train: The city is connected by train to Sassari-Porto Torres and Olbia, and by bus to Alghero-Fertilia and Olbia-Costa Smeralda airports. The port and the central station are located in the city centre, less than a 15-minute walk from the conference venue.

How to move in Cagliari

On foot: The Conference venue at the S. Ignazio Campus is about a 15-minute from the city centre and the train station.

Public transport: the public transport network comprises the surface metro line, urban buses, and extra-urban buses. You can use public transport by purchasing paper tickets at various points of sale or by downloading the CTM Busfinder application, which offers several services:

  • Online tickets purchased via credit or debit card. The application offers various solutions, including single journey tickets (90 minutes or 120 minutes), multiple tickets (12 journeys of 90 minutes), and daily or weekly tickets.
  • Consult the best route to take and identify the nearest stops.
  • Consult in real time the timetables of the means and the actual waiting times at the stops.

The Conference venue can be reached via several bus lines:

  • Line 10, stops at “Sant’Ignazio da Laconi”. The stop is at the entrance of Building A of the S. Ignazio Campus.
  • Line 5 or 5/11 or 5-ZEUS , stops at “Merello Ang. Via Don Bosco” (direction Cinquini) or “Merello Ang. Via Oslavia” (direction Vergine di Lluc). You can reach the campus in 5 minutes walk.
  • Lines 8 and 20, stops at “Buoncammino Fronte Carcere” (direction Matteotti) or “Buoncammino Ang. Via Belvedere” (direction Policlinico Universitario). You can reach the campus in 5 minutes walk.
  • Line 1, stops at “Trento Teatro Massimo” (direction Ospedale Brotzu) or “Mameli Ang. Via Caprera” (direction Flavio Gioia). You can reach the campus in 5 minutes walk.

Taxi: taxi service is always available day and night. There are several cooperatives:
